School ruined it for me by Demachic School ruined it for me by Demachic
School does not exist to broaden my interest in a given subject. It is there to make me memorize sloppy bullet points that I can then regurgitate onto an exam paper at the end of the year.

You don't have to be intelligent to pass the leaving cert. You have to have photographic memory or your parents have to be teachers, so they can teach you (at home) whats gonna be on the exam.

Only good thing though is that sometimes you get to skip lunch and go to the library with those nice fresh computers and books
of course it depends on the school

School is prison

   Both have

. Bell schedules
. Crowded cafeterias with bad food
. A courtyard The schools call it a playground
. A library
. buses that look the same
. Numbers for every Prisoner/Student
. Walking in lines
. Dress code
. Abridge freedoms
. authoritarian structure
. negative reinforcement
. loss of individual autonomy
. no input in decision making
. Solitary confinement
. and Bullies

Differences

You have to pay for food at school.
and you have to ask permission to use the bathroom at school.
You don't have to commit a crime to be forced to go to school.

The thing is - one doesn't learn anything at school. Everything I know is somehow self-taught. And I know more than many kids my age. Today, people have to skip school to learn something. And that is sad.I love all these subjects (exept for math...)

And those who are good at school aren't more intelligent. They just have a very good memory and lots of ambition. And school only tells facts, never reasons. And most good students don't wnat to know/don't know why things are the way they are. They are just proud to be able to list them... sad... sad... really good teachers tell reasons, but they often get bullied by the students and other teachers for only telling "useless" things... - because they aren't needed for exams, but for the own knowledge.

I am pro education and anti school! School ruins education!

For many years, I loved science because I found it so interesting and easy

Then physics came along and ruined everything :( All because of how much goddamned math it involves :rage:

School especially ruined history class for me...I just got so fed up with it that I refused to memorize anymore about the Holocaust and Nazis (that was literally all they taught in American history with maybe a week or two spent on Columbus, the original American colonies, and the Civil War) and started failing the courses. I learned far more from (less than) 6 months of reading Cracked articles on American history than I did in 7 years of history courses. Just pathetic...

On a more pathetic note on my end, I almost gave up writing when more than one teacher compared English to math--though I can see how it's like math, I prefer to see it as a form of art.

I once had a horrible teacher. She taught me nothing at all. She never picked on me,and always gave s so much homework that she never explained. She also always yelled at me and made me feel bad. My grades went horribly low,so she decided to have a conference with my parents. My parents were very angry with me. I told my teacher during the conference: "It's not my fault you're such a horrible teacher. I can't believe you're earning money for sitting in front of students and handing out work." XD
My parents were shocked. XD
(The school also gave out nasty food that would make your stomach hurt. They also made children pick up trash.)

While this stamp doesn't certainly represent me, I understand why school could have such an effect on people. Psychologists say that knowledge about an specific subject can make students get interested in it, but they just won't get into history/english/math by chocking them with stuff to memorize. It's boring, just remembering specific stuff to fill a bunch of circles. It would be better if the students had to actually use the knowledge instead.

I wouldn't say school really ruined my favorite subjects, but I have had some bad experiences with it, especially in elementary school. I don't really learn anything in school - I know a lot of the material beforehand, so I've had a lot of teachers who ignored me instead of giving me challenging work. A lot of them went farther than that - didn't like me and said very rude things by email to my parents. I don't know how stupid, exactly, some of my teachers thought I was. I was, even at seven years old, perfectly capable of opening up the family email account and reading their messages. And, well, possibly deleting them.

I've started to like school better, though. My teachers from the past three or so years love their subjects and try to make it fun for us. At the end of this year, I even went back to visit my favorite teacher from last year. She was, of course, very happy to see me again. :)

When I was a young child ( Around the age of 7-8, ) I was told by my art teacher that I would never become an artist. My sister has made it a personal quest to hunt her down and show her my new works, and show how much I've improved. After our family moved from the horrible town, in which all of the teachers treated me like a pile of garbage, I put my all in school. I'm still trying my best, working hard, and luckily I have the nicest teachers I've ever had. I agree to this on some degree, though I personally say most of how you view school is how hard you work for it. But that's just from my ignorant view.
