(Without) A little help from my friends... by Demachic (Without) A little help from my friends... by Demachic
Basically all these less-than-happy poems are being spawned from feelings related to the same person. Oh I'm one of those poets now, haha. :lmao:

So yeah, did you ever help out a friend when they were down about something, or had a problem - but when you needed help they either ignored it/didn't ask or brushed it off as it were no big deal (basically, your problems don't matter)?

Yepp. I'm not impressed with that behavior and I think it's ridiculously self-centered and just rude really! >:[

Hope you like it! :hug::heart:

I've been supporting this friend for 6+ years through her depression and whatnot...recently she left me because she said she couldn't handle my negativity since I've been in pain lately. ..I..I just don't understand it.  She then tried to fault me for being hurt because of it..and told me to just forget about her...but I can't...I'm in so much pain..

She also basically left me to spend time with this first boyfriend of hers who she hasn't even known for that long.  It's really immature and just makes me feel used.  I've done so much for her and sacrificed a buncha small but still important things to make her feel better about stuff like when she becomes irrationally jealous about other people...and yet here she is accusing me of being jealous of this guy and just up and leaving me without a thought.

i wouldn't do this to a friend I treasured so i just don't understand it.

Why are people such jerks sometimes?

Thank you for helping me figure out precisely what I feel by sharing this beautiful poem. You are truly awesome!  :iconletmehugyouplz:

P.S. Whoever hurt you is going to be missing out on a great friendship, I can just tell. ;D

lol wish i could say i didnt know what you were talking about :( sometimes, i tell myself to stop helping, that people arent always worth it anymore. But i always end up doing it anyway. Whether thats the right or wrong thing to do doesnt matter, because i know in my heart of hearts that i couldnt go through life without making people smile again :iconsmilesplz:

This has happened to me countless times before. It gets really frustrating and upsetting to find that the person you thought would always be there for you isnt - when you were always there for them.

Beautiful work!

This happened to me many times so I can tell you it does hurt...
Erwanna-Dragony Featured By Owner Dec 18, 2012  Hobbyist General Artist
I knew someone like that. I was always here for her, and when I needed her, she wasn't there for me. I thought we were best friends, but if she was my best friend, I wasn't hers, obviously, so she let me down. I haven't seen her for years, and I don't want to anyway. I've got a much better friend now, and I know it because when I had a big problem, she stayed. So yeah, it hurts a lot to feel betrayed. But in that case, all we have to do is find TRUE friends.
Traumkratzer Featured By Owner Dec 6, 2012
It's sad, but there are many "Friends" out there. The true ones come most of the times when you're in need. Also, a good starter for thinking over ones own attitude...

It's sad, there are people like that, then they aren't really that great of a friend. :/

Luckily, as an artist/poet, you can get a lot of sympathy/empathy from other artists/poets in the same situation - not sure if that's something you want though... :O

Sadly a lot of people are hollow though I'm glad I meet people who aren't. There are always the ones who either pretend to be polite or can't handle the tiniest lack of flattery

It's been a few weeks since, but my best friend had ditched me when I was upset. I wasn't even that upset and I could have walked it off, but just seeing someone whom I trusted just get up and leave me behind just made me think. She told me I was unpleasant around to be when I was angry. She was afraid.
I think I've forgiven her. But just because I forgave her doesn't erase the fact it's like she kicked me in the head.
*shrugs* I'm done ranting. But you are so, so right. Friends have each others' backs, and you summed it up beautifully.

yep thats how I feel -.-.. and then I think: my sister is so fricking lucky with her friends. She has 4 AWSOME AWESOME friends. ._.

today for example. One of my friends, Matt, just ugh. I have been nothing but his friend since i got to that school. Yeah i tease but he knows im kidding. And we fight sometimes but i always either apologize when i shouldnt have to or forgive him when he definitly doesnt deserve it. When he needs me im there at the drop of a dime. And suddenly he has the audacity to turn around and tell the whole school were dating - which were not - and telling my friends bullshit lies so that they'll stop being my friend. Like, i dont know what his problem is but i did nothing to deserve being kicked in the jaw like he did to me. Im fucking pissed.

From the other side, I'm one of those friends who never knows what to do. I'm so tangled in my own web of horribleness that I can be very blind to other people's problems. One of my best friends is the best at sorting me out and making sure I'm all right, but when things start to go wrong for her I haven't a clue on how to approach it. I could copy the things she does, but it's not just the cup of tea that works... it's her charm and compassion. I don't have that. Instead I distance myself and fret at home, hating myself for not having the skills a friend should have. Eventually some brave soul will help her out... but until then I'm tortured. Why can't I help her like she helps me?

Last time we discussed this over a beer, she told me that some people are just really good at being a listener and an excellent advice giver (she's a little vain, but that doesn't make it a false statement) and some people are good at stepping back and letting the right people in at the right time. If I tried, I'd be like a surgeon who could only use a sledgehammer and I would probably make things worse. It's this understanding that makes us close friends. We know our strengths and weaknesses.

It might not be the same with your friend, but I feel scratched when I see that people's definition of friend is someone who is always there and will readily help when it is needed. I can't. Does that mean I shouldn't have any friends? Sometimes I think so... but she will never give up on me... and that is the only thing that matters sometimes.

You're really lucky to have such an amazing, understanding friend. I used to be hopeless at the whole 'friends' thing too, I've never had more than one or two at a time. Then, just like you, I found my perfect match. Middie and I are best friends now, inseperable for life. We know each other completely, the good, the bad, and the ugly, and we're strong for each other. We know what we each need, and how to provide it. Sometimes that means sitting quietly with her, so she knows it's okay to let herself fall apart. Sometimes it means her feeding me smarties and tucking me in her bed so I can sleep off my panic attack. Words aren't always needed, just being by their side is usually more than enough.

Kliz01 Featured By Owner Nov 4, 2012  Hobbyist Writer
I don't know about you, but if a friend won't help you in your time of need as you do in theirs, should they really be considered a friend? I don't think so. I get the pain its causeing you, as I assume it is because of all the sad poems, but is it really worth it? If it can get worse it can get better as well. A friend once told me that if you let what people do and say bother you, then all you are really doing is letting them win. Don't let this person bother you.
Things WILL get better, even if they have to get worse first.

love this. I've been through this, and it sucks. It sucks helping someone through their problems but they don't bother to help you with yours. It sucks being there for someone and caring about them when they don't give a damn about you.

It's fine that you're writing sadder things, sometimes you just need to get things out. I loved your happy ones because they inspired me, but I love these too because they show me that I'm not alone.

I have tons of friends like that...

Amen to this! I've had my fare share of people with no simple idea of empathy... T_T What comes around, goes around - they'll feel it later too. ;)

I like the bright colours. :) It's really nice.

It doesn't happen to me, but I have a friend who can definitely relate to this. She helps other people with their problems, but it when it comes to talking about her problems, they don't seem to care as much anymore. But anyway, this is an amazing poem, as always! Keep up the amazing work! :)

I know exactly how this feels, it seems to happen with almost all of my friends. I love these little poems you do, and the visual aspects of them are fun, even when the theme of the poem is sad. Keep up the good work!

Agreed. This definitely fit me a few years ago.
